Канал The Fast Lane Car провёл внедорожные испытания двух идеологически разных автомобилей — стандартного Volkswagen Touareg первого поколения и доработанного Land Rover Discovery второго поколения. Объединяет их только то, что оба выпущены в 2004 году и у обоих под капотом — бензиновые V8.

Несмотря на кроссоверный вид, «первый» Touareg оснащался постоянным полным приводом с понижайкой и блокировкой центрального дифференциала, а этот экземпляр также снабжён опциональной пневмоподвеской и блокировкой заднего дифференциала. Introduced in the early 2000's the Touareg combines on-road luxury with offload prowess. Under the hood is a 4.2 liter V8 sourced from Audi, and with 2 locking differentials and height adjustable air suspension the Volkswagen is shockingly capable when the going gets tough. Compared to the Land Rover Discovery, the difference is night and day. The Land Rover has a 4.6L V8 and solid axles front a rear. With body on frame construction and dedicated off-road tires our Discovery is FULLY prepped for off-roading.
